INDEPENDENCE -- An appropriate gift to your spouse on your 10th wedding anniversary is diamond jewelry.
An appropriate gift for a 10-year-old runs the gamut of sporting goods, video games, clothes, ponies and, of course, money.
But what do you get a library when it turns 10?
Don't fret. When the Independence Public Library celebrates its 10th year at its new building Friday, it will be giving the gifts.
Running from 1 to 5 p.m., the anniversary celebration will give residents a chance to see how far the library has come since its days in the undersized historic library two blocks down Monmouth Street.
"It's pretty amazing to think that we lasted as long as we did in our old facility," Robin Puccetti, library director, said. "We were to the point where we could fit nothing else in that facility. It's a wonderful building but it had far outlived its usefulness in that capacity."
Aside from remembering the days of the library's former location, a raffle and giveaways will be held.
And what would a party be without refreshments? Cake and beverages will be served.
