DALLAS -- Dallas Adopt-A-Family will take applications every Thursday until Dec. 5.
Adopt-A-Family, a community holiday tradition, provides food and children's gifts for local families in need. Families apply and businesses, churches, individuals and local organizations then "adopt" those families, providing a holiday meal and presents.
Last year the event served 222 families -- a total of more than 1,000 individuals, including 500 children. This year the campaign expects to serve about 240 families.
The Salvation Army will accept applications for assistance Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Academy Building, 182 SW Academy St., Suite 220, Dallas.
Those wishing to adopt a family can contact Melissa Baurer, the Salvation Army's director of community services, before Dec. 5 at 503-798-4876 or via email to Melissa.Baurer@usw.salvationarmy.org.
Evangelical Bible Church, Fowler Affiliates, Polk County Service Integration and The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center are working with the Adopt-A-Family committee for this year's campaign.
