DALLAS -- Two horses seized in July by the Polk County Sheriff's Office due to neglect are ready for new homes.
The horses, both adult thoroughbred geldings named Star and Blaze, were seized from a property in 2200 block of Elliott Road in Dallas on July 24. Sheriff's Office personnel took the horses into custody following an investigation and examination by a veterinarian determining their owner wasn't meeting basic care standards.
Owner Raymond M. Wilson II, 70, of Dallas has been charged with second-degree animal neglect.
Blaze and Star have since been recovering at an animal care facility. Both horses were forfeited per court order and are available for adoption at no cost through the Sheriff's Office. They are healthy, alert, and in ideal body condition.
A background check will be completed on applicants prior to transferring ownership.
Anyone one interested in adopting one or both of these horses, can contact Deputy John Kincaid at 503-623-9251.
