Holidays delay local garbage service

DALLAS — There will be no garbage or recycling services on Christmas Day or New Year's Day for Republic Services customers.

Local garbage service will be one day late after the holiday and for the rest of that week. For example, if your regular service day falls on Christmas Day or New Year's Day (Wednesday), garbage and recycling will be emptied on Thursday. If your regular service day is Thursday, carts will be serviced on Friday, etc. Drivers will work on Saturday to make up for the holiday.

Republic Service customers are asked to be sure to put carts out to the curb the night before or early on collection day as drivers may come by earlier than usual.

New Year's Day guided hike slated

BUENA VISTA — The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will host a free guided hike of the Luckiamute Landing State Natural Area south of Independence on New Year's Day.

The 2-mile loop hike will start at 10 a.m. in the North Luckiamute trailhead parking lot. The hike is an opportunity to see the progress that has been made on habitat restoration in the park and enjoy bird and wildlife viewing.

Attendees should dress appropriately for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, bring water and a snack, and a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing.

LSNA is located at the confluence of the Willamette, Luckiamute and Santiam rivers and spans about 900 acres.
