POLK COUNTY — Chief Deputy District Attorney Matthew Jarvis will step down from his post on Jan. 31, after serving in the position just short of 11 months.

District Attorney Aaron Felton said Jarvis submitted his resignation in December.

Jarvis was promoted to chief deputy district attorney in February 2013. He joined the office in 2011 and has worked closely with the Polk County Interagency Narcotics Team (POINT) on cases. He also has prosecuted Measure 11 offenses, including serious assaults and sex crimes.

The search for Jarvis' replacement has already begun. The DA's Office advertised the position, with applications due Jan. 6.

As "second in command" in the office, the chief deputy assists the district attorney with administration, including overseeing deputy district attorneys and managing case assignments, as well as prosecuting cases. The salary range for the full-time position is $5,934 to $7,509 monthly, according to the position recruiting announcement.

No announcement has been made yet regarding the position.
