GRAND RONDE — Oregon State Police and the Polk County District Attorney's Office are continuing to investigate the Jan. 3 pedestrian versus car accident resulting in serious injuries to the pedestrian that occurred on Highway 18 near Grand Ronde.
Emergency workers responded at about 5 a.m. to a report of a man who was seriously injured after being hit by a car on the highway near milepost 18.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Gabriel Trujillo-Hernandez, 33, of Springfield was traveling westbound with passenger Lisa Dunnihoo, 31, of Eugene, when they stopped on the side of the highway. According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), Trujillo-Herdnandez had exited the vehicle before being struck by the car, which was then driven by Dunnihoo.
Trujillo-Hernandez was taken to Salem Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
OSP troopers and detectives are working with the Polk County District Attorney's Office in the ongoing investigation.
