MONMOUTH — Western Oregon University's family weekend is not just for families of students.

"The event is open to all in the WOU family: current students, former students, those with children attending, and local community partners," said Ed E-Nunu, coordinator for student organizations and activities.

The weekend is expected to draw well over 100 individuals, in addition to students already on campus, E-Nunu said.

A variety of events are scheduled Friday through Sunday, starting Friday night with registration from 5 to 9, a welcome reception with poetry selections at 7, and a performance with Las Vegas magician Ben Seidman at 9.

"The most popular activity is the Student (Performance) Showcase, where students get to display their talents," said E-Nunu.

The showcase starts at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Werner University Center Pacific Room.

Participants may attend a doubleheader with the men's and women's basketball teams in the gym. The women's game against Alaska Anchorage is at 2 p.m., with the men's game against Northwest Nazarene scheduled for 5 p.m. The men's contest will be televised on ROOT sports.

The schedule encourages families to grab dinner on their own in Monmouth Saturday night before joining in an interactive game show at 8, location to be announced.
