Robert Chester Davenport, 85, of Rickreall died Feb. 12 in Independence.

He was born to Clarence and Elsa Hildred Cline Davenport in Perth Amboy, N.J.

During World War II he served in the Navy and was discharged as a Seaman 1st Class.

Through the help of family he became a pen pal to a nice young lady by the name of Gislinde Edeltraut Gnosa from Germany. They were married on June 6, 1956, in Hamburg, Germany. They made their home in Long Beach, Calif.

He attended Drake College and received training in accounting. He worked as an insurance investigator for many years. When he retired from insurance he became a dairy farmer in Monitor. The couple later sold that farm and moved to Rickreall, where they raised calves.

Bob and Gislinde both liked animals, traveling and wintering in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Gislinde of Rickreall; sons, Thomas Davenport of Portland and Richard Davenport of Brookings; brother, Howard of North Carolina; and six grandchildren.

Private inurnment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Pennelope 'Penny' (Miller) Cano

Pennelope "Penny" (Miller) Cano, 62, of Albany died Feb. 9.

She was born in Boise, Idaho, to Donald and Jabudah Miller.

She was raised in Hermiston and graduated from Hermiston High School in 1968.

Penny was married for 30 wonderful years to Cecil Pollard, who preceded her in death. Her marriage to Cecil created her loving blended family, whom she loved very much.

Throughout her life Penny was never afraid to take risks and follow opportunities. An entrepreneur at heart, Penny owned and operated a bakery, a Dairy Queen franchise, and helped her husband run a large insurance agency. Upon returning to Oregon, Penny was the assistant superintendent secretary for the Central School District.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Miller; husband, Cecil Pollard; and stepson, Brian Cano.

Survivors include her husband, Carlos Cano; children, Michael Martin of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Robert Pollard (Amy) of Evansville, Ind., Raymond Pollard of Denver, Tina Bratton (Byron) of Cataldo, Ind., and Chuck Pollard (Sarah) of Noblesville, Ind.; upon marrying Carlos she was proud to welcome into her heart his children, Jason Cano and Nicole Estabrook (Matt), all of Hermiston; mother, Jabudah Grossmiller and stepfather, Al of Hermiston; sisters, Linda Miller and Sheila Cross, both of Hermiston; brothers, Ray of Portland and Ben of Mount Shasta, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Celebration of life was Saturday at Monmouth Christian Church.

Randy Scott Fredrickson

Randy Scott Fredrickson, 58, of Willamina died Feb. 14 following a battle with pulmonary hypertension.

He was born in Iowa to Gene and Marge (Mode) Fredrickson.

The family moved in 1956 to Dallas, where he completed his primary and secondary education. He then went on to receive an associate of applied science degree in electrical engineering from Chemeketa Community College.

Randy worked for Willamina Lumber for 17 years before embarking in a career with Spirit Mountain Casino, which lasted 15 years.

Before his health issues arose he was a master fisherman, woodcrafter and had amassed an extensive collection of Native American artifacts that he had personally found, cataloged and displayed. He was very proud of his two daughters and two granddaughters. He had also enjoyed many outings with his dog, Kelso.

Randy was blessed and grateful for all the support he received from family, friends and hospice during his illness.

Survivors include his mother, Marge Fredrickson of Dallas; daughters, Melissa Fredrickson of Sheridan and April Cruise of Salem; brother, Lynn Fredrickson of Prineville; and two granddaughters.

A celebration of life is being contemplated in the future but no formal service will be held at his request.

Barbara Jeanne Gage

Barbara Jeanne Gage, 70, of Pedee died Feb. 1.

She was born in Gates to George and Irene Jefferson.

She started school while living in Oakville near Corvallis. Later the family moved to Madras, where she graduated from high school. The family moved back to the valley and she attended Oregon College of Education to become a teacher.

One move later to Pedee is where she met and married Earl C. Gage Jr. on July 5, 1965. They remained in Pedee on the farm where they raised their children.

Barbara worked on the farm raising calves, chickens and teaching her children to ride horses. She liked writing poetry and short stories, and even had some of them published.

During her working career she drove a school bus, worked at the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Department of Transportation and Department of Motor Vehicles, as well as canned many fruits and vegetables for her family.

Barbara was very proud that she won Queen of the Kitchen in 2009 at the Polk County Fair.

She touched many people and made a lasting positive impression.

Survivors include her husband, Earl; son, Earl Roy (LoDice) Gage; daughter, Anne (Cliff) Bault; and two grandsons.

Graveside service is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Womer Cemetery in Pedee. A reception follows at the Pedee church.

Jada 'Jay' Eudy

Jada 'Jay' Eudy

Jada "Jay" Eudy, 85, of Dallas died Feb. 14 in Dallas of lung cancer.

He was born in Kollocks, S.C.

Jay married his wife, Rose, on Feb. 12, 1974.

Jay and Rose built a very successful Superior Door Company business in Sacramento, Calif. After retiring from the door business Jay and Rose moved to Dallas to enjoy the slower pace of life.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; children, Ryan Eudy, Michael Eudy, Michelle Douthitt and Jalene Berlinquet; stepchildren, Nicolette Hoy, Robinette Dickerson and Carleen Wessler; brother, Bill Eudy; sister, Betty Ferrante; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.

No service is planned.

Anne Hale, 61, of Dallas died Feb. 18.

She was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, to George and Nina Beauregard. They lived in Pendleton and Lake Oswego.

Anne graduated from Oregon State University in 1972 and married her husband, Ken Hale, in 1974.

They moved to New Zealand and started their family. They returned to the U.S. in 1981 to be near their families and had lived in Dallas for the past 25 years.

Anne enjoyed sewing, crafts, holiday traditions, the Oregon Coast and walking.

Her family was the center of her life and she felt privileged to be a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hope Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Ken; son, Dylan (Jennifer) of Denver; daughter, Bernadette of Portland; brother, Bruce Beauregard of Chehalis, Wash.; sister, Jane (Rainer) Guensch of Lake Oswego; one granddaughter; and extended family.

At her request there will be no public service. Her family will hold a private memorial at a later date.

Michael Ardell Loerts

Michael Ardell Loerts, 66, of Dallas died Saturday in Salem.

He was born in Oakland, Calif., to Ardell and Jeanette Loerts.

He grew up on a cattle ranch in Lookingglass near Roseburg. He graduated from Douglas High School in Winston in 1964.

Michael volunteered to join the Marine Corps in 1965 and in 1966 was deployed to Vietnam. He served on 38 patrols as an infantryman and was promoted multiple times in the field. He soon found himself working out of MOS and controlling an entire Howitzer Fire Team on a bare mountain top in East Vietnam and received a Meritorious Commendation for his actions.

He returned stateside in 1967 and graduated from Non Commissioned Officer School at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was honorably discharged a Staff Sergeant in 1968.

He married Janet Ann Cottam on Dec. 29, 1972, and settled with his new family in West Salem. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland California Temple, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He moved his family in 1980 to the Salt Creek area of Dallas, where five of his children were raised. Janet and Mike later moved into the city of Dallas in 2002.

Michael made his career in business management and construction and graduated from George Fox University with a Bachelor of Arts in human resource management in 1989. He always felt the need to be working and productive and retired to working as a security manager of Holiday Tree Farms.

He had a passionate love for family, animals, the outdoors and farming. In his enormous and generous heart, all friends and animals are his family, including his canine companion, Stella. He loved the life of running cattle, worked in the stockyards, working the land with his farm equipment and shared many stories of his fond memories.

May Michael be most remembered for his uncommon passion for serving other people. His acts of anonymous kindness and selfless love are a huge part of his legacy.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; children, Leisa (Murray) Stewart, Corey (Traci) Blackburn, Molly Cady, Adam (Destiny) Loerts, Megan (Shervin Nourparvar) Loerts and Lincoln Loerts; sisters, Beverly and Susan; brother, Martin; nine grandchildren; and extended family.

Viewing is Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dallas prior to his service.

Service is Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dallas. Interment will be at Salt Creek Cemetery.

Martha Sadie (Swallow) Little, 91, of Monmouth died Sunday.

Visitation is Wednesday (Feb. 22) at 9 a.m., followed by the service at 10 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monmouth. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery in Monmouth.
