Richard J. Mance
Richard John Mance, 75, of Dallas died Feb. 1 in Dallas.
He was born in Renton, Wash., to Nick and Edith Mance.
Richard was an Air Force veteran. His occupations included postman, working for Western Union, and maintenance technician for the Dallas School District. He retired in 1997.
Richard was inventive, loved to garden, and developed "whimsical sculptures." He was also an avid garage sale browser.
He was preceded in death by his two loving wives.
Survivors include his sister, Darlene (David) Davis; brothers, Milton (Kathy), Tim (Linda) and Dennis; and extended family.
Service was Friday at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center.

Gloria H. Ellis, 81, of Independence died Feb. 3 in Independence.
She was born in Los Angeles to Lloyd Everett and Marie Alice Phillips Penrod.
She married LeRoy Harold Ellis on Aug. 30, 1952, in Glendale, Calif. They raised their family in Idaho and moved to Oregon in 1969.
Gloria was a homemaker who knew that faith and family was her life. Gloria and LeRoy helped with the building of a missionary home in Western Samoa from 1979 to 1981. After LeRoy's death on Aug. 28, 1999, Gloria lived in Idaho for a number of years, returning to Independence in 2011.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She enjoyed gardening and caring for the birds around her home.
Survivors include her daughters, Marcia L. Sauer and Nickie L. Cook; sons, Kent M. Ellis and Barton M. Ellis; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service is Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 9785 Hoffman Road, Independence.

Evelyn Doris Russell Hamm
Evelyn Doris Russell Hamm, 91, of Dallas died Feb. 2 in Dallas.
She was born in Corvallis to Madison R. and Tressie M. Law Russell.
She graduated from Corvallis High School and later attended Biola College in Los Angeles.
On June 27, 1943, she married David E. Hamm in Corvallis. They were missionaries for 26 years in the South American country of Chile. She was a member of Dallas Evangelical Bible Church.
She loved music, playing the piano, organ and accordion, and also enjoyed singing.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Davis, and brother, Victor Russell.
Survivors include her husband, David of Dallas; son, Leroy Hamm of Carmichael, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was Friday at Evangelical Bible Church. Private interment was at Dallas Cemetery.

Nita Rene' Holmes
Nita Rene' Holmes, 51, of Keizer died Feb. 3 in Salem.
She was born in Fort Bragg, Calif., to Joe Keith and Carrie Marie Carson Thacker.
On April 15, 1974, Nita and Loren Holmes got together and they married on March 15, 1983, in Salem. They lived in Grand Ronde, Willamina, Sheridan and Dallas, and had made their home in Keizer since 1984.
She was a lover of the outdoors, dancing and doing bead work. She was a fan of the Oregon Ducks and Seattle Seahawks.
Nita is a member of the Shoshone Tribe from the Wind River Reservation in Fort Washakee, Wyo.
Survivors include her husband, Loren "Buck" Holmes; sons, Jacob, Joshua, David and Robert; daughters, Jessica and Veda Holmes; mother, Carrie Thacker; brother, Cole Thacker; sisters, Laura, Julie and Stacey Thacker; and 26 grandchildren.
Memorial service was Feb. 6 at the Grand Ronde Tribal Gym. Interment was at Holmes Family Cemetery.

Dorothy 'Dottie' Baughman
Dorothy "Dottie" Rose Russell Baughman, 91, of Salem died Feb. 5 in Salem.
She was born in Independence to John James Russell and Mary Jennie Larsen-Russell.
She married James Lloyd Baughman on June 30, 1947, in Reno, Nev. They lived in several Oregon towns including Lebanon, Crabtree, Mill City and Salem.
Dottie was a talented businesswoman and started Baughman Antiques in 1961 and had a shop in Crabtree and Mill City for many years. She and James also bought and refurbished many homes. They moved to Salem in 1990 and continued in the business. After retiring from logging and mill work her husband joined her in the venture.
Dottie enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and her annual Dallas family picnics. She was a supporter of Friends of Felines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1990 and her son, John Gerard, in 2002.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Service is Friday at 1 p.m. and interment will be at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem.

Brenda M. Graham
Brenda Marie Graham, 67, of Dallas died Feb. 1.
She was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Calvin and Madeline VanWinkle.
Brenda was known by many and those close to her knew her by quirky titles including her personal favorite, "Mrs. Presley." She actually had her grandkids convinced that Elvis was their grandpa.
Brenda prided herself on her quirky sense of humor; she loved joking and teasing. She truly was full of life and spunk. She always lived every moment to the fullest despite any hurdle. This crazy, invincible woman seemed fearless, that is until it came to snakes. Even then she had a heart of gold and loved all God's creatures, even snakes, and held a special place in her heart for animals.
Her favorite pastimes were Disneyland, shopping, food, church and watching TV.
Her life was centered around relationships, with the Lord and her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Angela; brother, Ron VanWinkle; and grandson, Barry Vertner.
Survivors include her son, Jeffery Glazebrook; daughter, Heidi (Gary) Kessel; sister, Patricia (Denton) Waldron; brother, Calvin (Becky) VanWinkle; three grandchildren; and extended family.
Brenda did not want a funeral of any kind. She wanted people to remember the quirky, crazy, fun, lovable person she was and to celebrate her ascent into heaven. Interment was at Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Celebration of Life is pending.

Arthur Bucklin
Arthur Bucklin, 92, of Dallas died Thursday.
He was born in Portland, Maine, where he lived until 1929.
He and his family moved to the fishing community of Vinyl Haven, Maine, where he lived until 1933. They then moved to Thomaston, Maine, where he graduated from high school in 1939. In November of the same year he joined the Navy.
After completing basic training in Newport, R.I., he was involved with the escort of various ships to Britain in the early 1940s just as World War II was beginning in Europe. He served on the USS Texas, USS Branch and was stationed on the USS Dobbin at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

After the attack he served aboard the USS Mugford DD 389 for the duration of World War II, achieving the rank of Chief Machinist Mate in 1943. The Mugford was directly involved in seven historic Pacific battles and was hit by bombs in 1942 and suicide plane attack in 1944. In 1943 the Mugford arrived to rescue survivors of the AHS (hospital ship) Centaur after it had been sunk by a Japanese submarine.
After the war he returned to Thomaston until 1949, when he re-enlisted in the Navy and was involved in the Korean War. He was stationed at Treasure Island, San Francisco, at the end of this enlistment in 1953.
Arthur and his wife, Gladys, decided to live in the San Francisco Bay Area until 1967, when they along with their son, Dennis, returned to Maine. In 1984 Arthur and Gladys returned to the West Coast, first locating to Bandon until moving to Dallas in 1987.
Arthur previously worked as a machinist at Westinghouse in Sunnyvale, Calif., and Augusta, Maine, as well as at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. He became a machine shop planner in 1973 at the PNSY until retiring in the spring of 1982.
While in Dallas, Arthur and Gladys traveled throughout Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
Arthur had been a member of First Baptist Church in Dallas since 1987. He and Gladys established many friendships during that time and were members of the senior group called the "Gaddabouts." Arthur loved to laugh and make others around him laugh.
Survivors include his son, Dennis (Charlene); two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and extended family.
Service with military honors is Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Dallas.
