DALLAS -- Dallas' shot at a state title starts now.

After sitting tight with a bye in the play-in round, the Dragons softball team is set to host Wilson (17-8) of the Portland Interscholastic League Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

Dallas (23-3) will look to avenge an early exit in last year's quarterfinal round, where they ran into a familiar foe in Mid-Willamette Conference rival -- and 2013 league champ -- West Albany.

Wilson won the PIL title with an 11-1 record. Wednesday's game will mark the first meeting between the two teams, but they do share one common opponent in North Eugene.

Wilson beat the Highlanders 4-3 in its first game of the season, while Dallas picked up a 15-0 mercy-rule win over North Eugene at the North Medford Spring Break Invitational in the Dragons' third game of the season.

Entering Wednesday's contest, Dallas is led by senior shortstop Caitlyn McCarron, who is hitting .579 with an unbelievable 1.33 slugging percentage. The Bradley-bound player has 71 RBI, 15 doubles and 12 home runs, the last coming in a 5-2 victory over Class 6A West Salem May 15.

Dani Ackerman (.541, 46 hits), Kassidy Totten (.425) and Lizzie Posey (.424) round out the leaders in Dallas' lineup, while senior pitcher Julie Postma brings a 22-2 record with 92 strikeouts and a 2.05 ERA.

Class 2A-1A

PERRYDALE PLACES SECOND IN LEAGUE: With a 3-1 victory over Central Linn Thursday, the Pirates (12-6) clinched second place in the Special District 3 standings with a 9-3 record. Western Mennonite won the league title with a 10-2 mark. Perrydale is set to travel to Drain Wednesday for a 5 p.m. matchup with North Douglas/Elkton in the first round of the Class 2A-1A state playoffs. The Warriors (19-7) finished third in the Special District 2 standings. The winner of the game will advance to Friday's quarterfinals to face the winner of Nestucca and Heppner/Ione, the No. 1 seed.
