PFC Andrew Young was born to his parents, Scott and Chelle Young in Salem, on Oct. 8, 1996, and lived in Dallas his entire life.
He attended Grace Christian pre-school, Oakdale Elementary, LaCreole Middle School, Dallas High School and Morrison Campus, where he received his high school diploma in June 2015.
Andrew enjoyed playing football at both LaCreole Middle School and Dallas High School.
After high school, he enlisted in the Army, and after basic and advanced individual training, Andrew went on to attend and graduate from Airborne School; all in Fort Benning, Ga.
In January of 2016, Andrew was assigned to the 173rd infantry brigade. He served with Attack Company, 1st battalion, 503rd infantry regiment until his passing on Aug. 19, 2017.
PFC Young participated in numerous exercises and operational deployments across Europe, including Operation Atlantic Sentry, where he earned the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal.
Andrew’s other awards include the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Parachute Badge.
He desired to follow this career path from the age of 4, and proudly served his country and the U.S. Army, it was his childhood dream come true.
PFC Young is survived by his parents Scott and Chelle; sister Katee and many other friends and family members who love him.
Andrew was laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery on Sept. 5, 2017, with full military honors.
