Ora Hilda Shutt died peacefully Aug. 11, 2018, in Dallas at the age of 98. She was born in the Eola Hills Area of Polk County, Oregon, on Oct. 11, 1919, to Abraham Stouffer and Louisa Konschak.
She attended the Bethel School and the Greenwood School, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1936.
She married Mason Shutt on Nov. 7, 1937, at her folk’s house on the Falls City Highway in Polk County. The Shutt’s lived in Bridgeport for many years, then moved into town (Dallas) in 1959.
Ora started working for Dallas City Bank (which eventually became Bank of America), and continued to work for them until the early 1970s.
After Mason’s retirement (in 1977), the Shutt’s bought a trailer and traveled the country. For many years, they were snow birds staying in Yuma, Arizona, for the winter.
Ora enjoyed flowers, baking (chocolate cake and cinnamon rolls, yum) and entertaining. Her holiday teas were a great source of pleasure. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Ora is survived by daughters Sandi Taylor and Kay (Jerry) Lefley, both of Salem; granddaughters Joann Lefley, of Salem, and Lisa (Mark) Crawford, of Aumsville; and their children Ryan, of Aumsville, and Amanda, of Portland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be at Dallas United Methodist Church Friday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. Private interment will be at Dallas Cemetery.
