Marian June Kunke

June 11, 1925 - December 2, 2018

Marian June Kunke, a resident of Dallas, died peacefully on Sunday, December 2, 2018. Marian knew and loved the Lord. She put her hope in Jesus Christ and was well-prepared for her eternal home in Heaven.
Marian, the oldest of three children, was born on June 11, 1925, in Moorhead, Minnesota, to Ralph and Helen Ritteman. Marian graduated from Hawley High School and Concordia College, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. Seeking to escape the bitter cold winters of Minnesota, she applied for multiple teaching positions on the West Coast. Soon after she was hired as a high school English and music teacher and volleyball coach in Port Orford. This began her lifelong love for the beach.
Mutual friends introduced her to Gordon Kunke. They married on Aug. 16, 1952, and settled in Dallas. Marian was a substitute teacher for the Dallas School District for many years.
Her family remembers Marian as a loving and adoring wife, mother and grandmother. She was always there for her family. Marian faithfully attended countless sporting events, school functions, music recitals, and many other activities that her children and grandchildren participated in.
She loved to cook, and her specialties were fudge, sticky buns and bread, cookies, cakes and pies. (Pretty much anything involving sugar, corn syrup, butter, or marshmallows!) Marian was very artistic. She played the organ, piano, xylophone and a had a beautiful singing voice. She enjoyed painting, decorating and knitting.
For many summers, Marian made certain her family spent time in Minnesota enjoying the lakes and combating the mosquitoes. After retirement, Marian and Gordon enjoyed wintering for 20-plus years in Yuma, San Diego, and Palm Springs. Marian enjoyed working in her yard and tending her flowers. She liked sitting on her deck enjoying the sunshine and beautiful surroundings.
Marian was a longtime member of the Evangelical Bible Church. She was a kind and gracious friend who was always eager to bake cookies or prepare a meal for someone sick or in need.
The Kunke family expresses their sincere appreciation to Jeana Moehler for providing loving care for Gordon and Marian in their home for the past 2-1/2 years.
Marian is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Ralph Ritteman.
She is survived by her sister Anita (Eldon) Christianson; her husband of 66 years, Gordon; children, Steve (Kathee) Kunke, Lori (Murray) Beck, Terry (Carol) Kunke, Tom (Conni) Kunke; along with her grandchildren Rian and Taylor Kunke, Grady and Christy Beck, Robbie (Nicole), Kiersten, Chris and Matt Kunke, Lauren (Andrew) Kemp, Emma (Garrett) Butler, and Blake Neustel. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Evangelical Bible Church on Friday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund, in care of Bollman Funeral Home, who is caring for the family. To leave an online condolence go to
