Ruth Evelyn Garus, 89, a resident of Dallas, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, in Dallas. She was born on March 10, 1928, in Thayer, Missouri, the daughter of James Henry and Sofia Mae Campbell Pitchford, one of 12 children.
She moved to California in 1939.
On Jan. 15, 1945, she married Leonard Joseph Garus in Los Angeles. In 1946, they moved to Myrtle Creek; in 1957, they moved to Buffalo, New York, and then back again to California in 1958, finally coming to Dallas in 1992.
She was a homemaker, and was always a fun-loving mother that was there for her two sons and their every need. She helped Leonard remodel and build several of their own homes.
She especially enjoyed her family and shopping, she was also quite a cook. She was a fan of Tom Jones and Elvis Presley.
She is survived by her sons Jim (Judy) Garus, of Dallas, and Robert Garus, of Victorville, Calif.; along with eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Lewis (Marilyn) Pitchford, of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Albert (Margarete), of Roseburg; and a sister Sharon (Lyle) Lee, of Roseburg.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 2, in the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Private family interment will be in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
