Steven W. Hildebrand passed away at the age of 66 after a courageous fight with lung cancer on Jan. 30, 2019, in Dallas, Oregon. Steven was born on Oct. 29, 1952, in Dallas at the old Bartel Hospital to Walt and Florence Hildebrand.
He was raised in Dallas and graduated in 1971 from Dallas High School. Just after graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served from 10-11-72 to 10-2-74 after training at Fort Ord, California and Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He received medals and badges for National Defense Service, Good Conduct Medal, Driver and Mechanic Badge with DR Bar, and Sharp Shooter M16. He was sent to Germany for an 18-month tour and discharged. He worked 11 years at the University of Oregon in Eugene. In December of 1999, he left to become a general contractor for the second time, but a major back injury in 2004 put a stop to that.
He loved anything cowboy and western. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and just being outdoors.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Robyn; son Dustin (Jenny); daughters Rhonda (Gabe) and Wendy (Trevor); parents Walt and Florence; and sisters Sandy (Gary) and Joyce; along with seven grandkids.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center.
