Charlotte “Char” Bechtold, a resident of Independence, died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, after a courageous battle against cancer.
Char was born on March 24, 1964, in Salem, the daughter of Herold and Jaki Bechtold. She grew up in Keizer and attended McNary High School.
Char was raised in a strong Christian family. Char worked as an escrow officer. Char married John Dalke and they had a daughter Hailey. They later divorced.
Char later married Don McKechnie and they had a daughter Melissa. They later divorced.
Char worked at AG West in Rickreall in the retail store there. She really enjoyed her time there and her coworkers. Char had to stop working as her health declined.
Char enjoyed doing anything crafty with her daughters. She painted and loved to doodle. Char’s daughters remember coloring books and crayons on the living room floor with their mom in the middle. For birthdays, Char would leave birthday greetings in the driveway with sidewalk chalk. She also loved Valentine’s Day. Char enjoyed attending many family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jaki, Oct. 19, 2015.
She is survived by her daughters, Hailey Dalke and Melissa McKechnie; father Herold Bechtold; sisters, Debbie Roose, and Sue Eklund; along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Char’s Life will be held on Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Private interment will be in the Dallas Cemetery. To leave an online condolence go to www.dallastribute.com
