Ken was born on March 8, 1931, in Dallas.
In 1951, he moved to Clovis, California, where he met the love of his life Billie Messer. When they met, Billie was a telephone operator and Ken was studying to be a mortician.
After a brief courtship, they married in First Baptist Church in Clovis California in 1952. Their honeymoon started the journey to Dallas, where they lived until 1994. During that time they raised four children, Dan, Tim, Cindy and Julie. In 1994, Ken built Billie the house of her dreams. McNary Estates in Keizer became their new home. They continued their journey to Capital Manor in 2013.
Dad was a man with many skill sets; ambulance driver, mortician, journeyman plumber, and an entrepreneur pioneer for elder care in the state of Oregon along with many, many stories. But his love for the elderly inspired him to build Jefferson Manor Retirement Home in Dallas, in 1972 and sold it 2004.
Dad’s favorite place in the world was to be in his motor home. So many memories were made as they traveled all over.
His love for Jesus was his greatest treasure. Dad was very faithful in covering his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren in prayer and making sure they knew about the Lord. He took great pride in making sure his wife was always taken care of. If you met our Dad you’d never forget him; he was a very loving, giving man that will be missed by so many.
Ken is survived by his wife of 66 years, Billie; Children Dan Ewert (Pat), Tim Ewert (Sherry), Cindy Miller (Brian). Julie Knudson (Eric).
Dad was blessed with 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial of his life will be held at Capital Manor in Salem on Jan. 18, 2019, at 10 a.m.
