Margaret Lois Chapman Jacobson, aged 86, died on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, in Salem. She was born May 29, 1932, in Kobe, Japan, of pioneer missionary parents, Gordon K. and Katherine D. Chapman. She spent more than 10 years in Japan both before and after World War II.
She was married for more than 55 years to her beloved husband, Verne L. Jacobson, who predeceased her in 2017. They enjoyed widely traveling and serving as hosts in state parks after retiring from professional life.
Margaret’s life reflected her strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ, in whose presence she now rests. She gently and truly “walked her talk.” As she physically suffered during her last days here, this walk was most evident.
Margaret had a passion for teaching kids in the San Diego, California, school system. There, she was appreciated by all of her colleagues and demonstrated great courage when challenged in areas where doing the right thing matters. She also had a passion for animals of all varieties.
She is survived by family including brothers Bill and Chuck and nieces and nephews almost too numerous to count. They recall her graciousness in all that Margaret attempted. A consummate hostess, she was skilled in all aspects of loving hospitality.
Margaret will be sorely missed, but we rejoice in her life and delight in the reality of her being in glory with her Lord. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
