This week is back-to-school time in Polk County, and Tuesday marked the first official day of classes for many students. Left, Jamylin Martinez (right) readies her backpack for first grade, organizing her paperwork, files and binder, at Ash Creek Elementary School in Monmouth. Joseleen Martinez waits to be taken to her third-grade classroom. The students are excited to be starting the school year, particularly Jamylin, who had to have a binder just like her older sister’s, even though binders are not required for first-graders in the Central School District.
