POLK COUNTY -- The Dallas Resource Center is collecting school supplies for it annual Apple Tree School Supply Drive.

Donations can be dropped off at area collection locations through Friday, Aug. 12.

This year the drive will provide school supplies for families in need in Dallas, Falls City, Monmouth, Independence and West Salem.

Melissa Baurer of the Dallas Resource Center said the center is expecting to serve about twice as many students as last year, so monetary and supply donations are greatly needed.

Financial donations are tax deductible.

The most needed supplies are: college ruled notebook paper, spiral notebooks, notebook dividers, calculators (scientific would be ideal), index cards, backpacks (all grade levels), USB memory sticks, three-ring binders, large scissors, compasses and protractors.

Drop-off sites in the county are: Dallas Resource Center, 326 Main St., Dallas; Academy Building, 182 SW Academy St., Dallas; West Valley Hospital, 525 SE Washington St., Dallas; OSU Federal Credit Union, 210 Orchard Drive, Dallas, or 464 S. Pacific Highway, Monmouth; Citizens Bank, 583 SE Jefferson St., Dallas; Oregon First Community Credit Union, 372 E. Ellendale, Dallas; Monmouth Fitness Club, 165 Main St. E, Monmouth; Monmouth Senior Center, 180 S. Warren St., Monmouth; Sterling Savings Bank, 302 S. Main St., Independence; and Falls City City Hall, 299 Mill St., Falls City.
