POLK COUNTY — The Polk County Warming Center will be open on Thanksgiving.
The warming center is scheduled to be at Dallas Church, 450 SE Washington St., from the evenings of Nov. 26 through Nov. 30.
A Thanksgiving meal is planned for all guests starting at 7 p.m.
Polk County Warming Centers are activated from November through March on nights where the temperature is forecast 32 degrees or colder.
“Hand warmers and someone to help with laundry are probably the biggest ones,” said Matt Smucker, Polk Warming Center coordinator. “We had 10 guests each of the three nights we were open last week, which means several loads of bedding to turn around. We are being well-supplied from the Windermere “Share the Warmth” Coat and Blanket Drive in Monmouth and Independence, so those items are covered for now.”
