With the last game of the season, the goal is always to end on a high note. It was an uphill battle for the Dallas boys basketball team, when they traveled to Silverton on the Foxes Feb. 28. While it wasn’t the final result the Dragons were looking for, the visitors still tallied their highest point total in over a month. Silverton however couldn’t be denied the win on their senior night as they secured a 70-56 victory over Dallas.
The Foxes pounced on the Dragons in the first couple minutes of the game jumping out to a quick 10-2 lead. But once Dallas settled in, Isaiah Mosley and Coven Rotter combined to score the last Dragons six points of the quarter during a 15-5 run to given then a 17-15 lead.
Just under the midway point in the second quarter, Silverton went on a 10-0 scoring run that propelled them back ahead 28-23. With time winding down in the final few seconds of the half, Cole Ratzlaff drove hard to the basket and scored the final Dallas points and trimming the Foxes lead to 31-27 at the break.
Defensive lapses would again plague the Dragons in the second half. Silverton came out strong, outscoring the Dragons 18-4 in the first six minutes. Bean Newman scored on back-to-back possessions for Dallas. But a Silverton three-pointer near the end of the quarter pushed the Foxes lead back up to 52-36.
The Dragons got as close as 12 on a couple of separate occasions in the fourth quarter. But Silverton answered quickly each time to regrow their lead. A late Silverton three slammed the door shut on any Dragons hope for a comeback.
Looking ahead to next year the Dragons will lose some key senior leaders but will see the return of all league players Coven Rotter, Cole Ratzlaff and Bean Newman.
