The Dallas softball team is gaining momentum and chasing a perfect league record as the postseason approaches following a crucial away win in Lebanon on May 10. Dallas completed the season sweep 8-5 thanks to a three-run sixth inning that broke a late tie.
Kadence Morrison led the Dragons in the circle going four and a third innings, throwing 97 pitches and punching out five batters. Madison Ruman came in for two and two thirds innings of relief work, throwing 28 pitches and only giving up two hits. Offensively, Morrison and Jordan Cresswell led the way with two hits each and Cresswell chipping in three RBIs.
Lebanon got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning after Alexis Mulligan singled. She later scored on a wild pitch. Dallas scored their first runs in the top of the third inning after Cresswell and Brooke Dunkin drove across their teammates. The Warriors tied it up in their half of the third on an RBI single by Christine Berg.
After the bottom of the fourth inning, Lebanon took a one-run lead, which Dallas quickly erased with two hits and two errors, giving the Dragons a two-run advantage 5-3. More back-and-forth scoring followed, as Lebanon answered with a pair of runs of their own to tie the game at five.
Singles from Ava Woods and Morrison were followed by Cresswell’s double to center field charged a three run inning for the Dragons. The Warriors went down in order in the bottom of the sixth. In the final frame, Lebanon threatened with two of their first three batters reaching base, but back to background outs secured the Dallas victory.
The Dragons ended their week with another road win at Central on May 12. Dallas scored 10 runs in the first two innings and continued to cruise from there topping the Panthers by a final of 13-1. Next for Dallas will be two non-league matchups against 6A schools Westview and Mountainside on May 17 and 18.
