QUESTION: I’m concerned by Damarea Crockett’s departure, even though Larry Rountree is a proven first-string back. Tyler Badie and perhaps Simi Bakere are good in supporting roles. Kelly Bryant is a runner at QB. Still, if Rountree should miss significant time, I’m afraid MU could be in trouble. Are there others at RB who could be relied on?

MATTER: They'll need to have a backup ready for a bigger role in case Rountree gets hurt. That's got to be a priority. The staff loves Badie. He's got a chance to be really productive this year in that No. 2 role. Anthony Watkins joins the program this summer. He's built more like Badie than Rountree but that still plays in this offense. He'll have a chance to earn a role.

If Rountree should get hurt, I think you'll see more of a committee approach at running back. And don't sleep on Dawson Downing. He went on scholarship last year. He’s a favorite of running backs coach Cornell Ford.
